DRAFT: POLYPOOL GOES UNDERGROUND IN LUXURY HOMES
Indoor swimming pools, featuring the latest heat-retaining pool technology from Polypool, are part of underground leisure suites in a new residential development by Southacres in Surrey. The Phillamores is a collection of three luxury properties in Cobham each with their own entertainment complex in the basement that includes a 9m x 4m pool, gym and home cinema. Polypool designed and built high specification heated swimming pools for each new home, including state-of-the-art environmental controls, chlorine-free purification, and a music system that utilises the cable-free benefits of wireless technology.

Polypool worked closely with Southacres to provide an exclusive swimming pool system for all three homes. Richard Forrest, Sales and Marketing Manager for Southacres, says Polypool’s insulated pool panel concept provided the perfect solution for the project and has added maximum value to the properties. He comments: “We chose Polypool’s pioneering system because it offers ease of installation, minimal running costs, and advanced heat conservation to rival any traditionally built concrete or block swimming pool.”

Polypool’s thermal panel structure creates a fully insulated pool shell with a U-value (potential for heat loss) of 0.018W/m2K - well below the maximum 0.025W/m2K required under new Part L Building Regulations due to come into force in October 2010. Panels are factory fabricated to size to suit the individual pool dimensions and include high efficiency polyurethane between two facing skins. Polypool’s patented pool system retains up to 96% of heat that would normally be lost through the pool walls and floor using traditional construction methods.

Polypool provided a total package for the Phillamores including a complete environmental pool system providing effective dehumidification, heat recovery and heating of air and pool water. The pools use a natural oxygen purification process that eliminates the need for cleaning chemicals such as chlorine or bromine. The environmentally friendly system keeps the water safe and clean, and the toxic-free backwash water can be recycled for washing the car or watering plants.

To satisfy the development’s exacting aesthetic standards, Polypool recommended a ‘liquid’ pool cover with minimal visual impact to save energy on water heating and control humidity. The innovative system consists of a bio-degradable liquid which is lighter than water and forms a thin, transparent layer over the surface of the pool. The layer breaks apart when the water is disturbed, for example when someone enters the pool, and reforms when the water is calm for maximum heat retention. An automatic dosing system ensures the correct dose of the tasteless, odourless liquid is added to the pool to maintain its effectiveness.

Polypool’s attention to detail, first class support and technical expertise ensured trouble-free installation at the Phillamores, says Richard Forrest: “Following the huge success of this project, every Southacres home will now include a Polypool system.”

With over 40 years of experience in swimming pool construction technology, Polypool already has a clear lead in insulated pool wall and panel systems that combine the benefits of affordability, ease of installation, and effective heat conservation. Recent developments have given Polypool an expanded product range and better serviced network of dealers and installers. For more information please visit www.polypool.co.uk
